Möglingen

Möglingen sets the course for the future with Smart Actuator

In Möglingen, public facilities are a top priority. This includes ensuring that heating systems in communally used buildings operate reliably and with maximum energy efficiency. Innovative solutions from SAUTER are driving their modernisation and technical harmonisation.

Located in the Ludwigsburg district North of Stuttgart, the municipality of Möglingen is home to around 11,300 residents and a popular place to live for people of all ages. A wide range of facilities contribute to its appeal, including daycare centres, schools, senior citizens’ centres and, in particular, the community centre. It was officially opened on 6 December 1986 and has been a central meeting point in the municipality ever since.  However, after nearly forty years, time has left its mark on the community centre and other municipal properties. To achieve technical harmonisation and comply with current energy standards, it was time to upgrade the outdated heating systems. Specifically, the project was to replace seven heating circuits in the community centre and three in a daycare centre. To meet the requirements effectively, the municipality opted for SAUTER solutions and commissioned building technology specialist PENN MSR Technik to implement them.

The solution

At the heart of the new heating systems is SAUTER’s intelligent 3-in-1 solution: the Smart Actuator. It consists of an actuator combined with a freely programmable automation station and an IoT communication interface, all in a single autonomous unit. Alongside its compact footprint, operators benefit from user-friendly operation. By connecting to the SAUTER Cloud, the heating systems can be monitored and managed both centrally and remotely via the SAUTER app. With demand-led control and time programmes integrated directly on it, the SAUTER Smart Actuator also offers significant potential for long-term energy savings. Interoperability with BACnet ensures seamless and secure integration into building automation systems. In addition, SAUTER modulo 6 automation stations with integrated moduWeb Unity web server were used connect to the building management system in the community centre.

The result

By refurbishing the heating systems, Möglingen is preparing for the future, especially in light of rising energy prices and stricter energy conservation regulations. The SAUTER Smart Actuator is a key element in this. With intelligent functions for monitoring and processing measurement data, it ensures that HVAC systems run efficiently at all times and prevents unnecessary heating. This minimises energy consumption, reduces wear and extends maintenance intervals and operating times. It thus creates a basis for achieving energy efficiency class A and compliance with building automation requirements under the latest energy efficiency legislation, including data access via freely configurable interfaces, full monitoring, logging and analysis of all building systems and identifying potential for optimisation.
